What is a matching gift?
A benefit some employers offer where the company gives the same amount you gave to a nonprofit, sometimes double. It is part of your compensation in the same way a retirement contribution is, and it goes unused unless you ask for it.
Does my employer match?

How long do I have?
That depends on the company. Some deadlines run to the end of the calendar year, others allow a year from the date of the gift. Check the details in the search results for your employer, and if you gave near the end of last year it is worth submitting now rather than waiting.
Can I request a match on a gift my spouse made?
Often, yes. A number of employers match gifts made by a spouse or partner, and some match gifts from retirees and board members as well.
Does a recurring monthly gift qualify?
Most employers will match the total given over a year, so Hearts of Hope monthly gifts count. Your company may ask for a confirmation of the full amount, which we can send you.
Does volunteering count for anything?
Sometimes companies make a grant to a nonprofit based on the hours an employee volunteers there. The search tool flags this when it applies to your employer.
I submitted a request. What happens next?
Your employer verifies the gift with us and sends the match. This can take a few weeks or a few months depending on the company. You do not need to do anything else.
