Why do we Walk?

  • Child abuse ­ Reported on average every 10 seconds, and more than four children die as a result of child abuse each day in the United States
  • Street gang violence ­ There are more than 1,300 street gangs in L.A. County - these gangs account for approximately 51% of all homicides.
  • Youth Sexual Assault ­ One out of every seven victims of sexual assault reported to law enforcement were under the age of six.
  • Parental Alcohol & Drug Abuse ­ 50% of the substantiated cases of child neglect and abuse are associated with parental alcohol or drug abuse.
  • Emancipated Youth ­ Each year 1,000 youths are emancipated from foster care in L.A. County - 45% of them end up on the streets within six weeks
Proceeds from the Walkathon will enable Richstone to continue providing services that meet the many critical needs in our communities.
