Fundraising Tips

Some "How to's" on forming your team

Recruit your family, friends, neighbors and work associates…teams of all sizes are welcome. Select a team name your company, your name, business or just be creative.

Distribute sponsor forms to your team members (be sure to put your team name on the outside of each envelope).

  • Encourage your team members to get sponsor donations
  • Donations will be collected and turned in the day of the event
  • Checks should be made out to “Richstone Pier-to-Pier Walkathon”
  • NEW this year contributions can be made ON-LINE

Designate a place to meet on Walkathon day (Saturday April 28)

  • The start is the Manhattan Beach Pier
  • Check-in is at 7:30am and the walk starts at 8:00am
  • Try and collect as many of your team forms and sign in as a group
  • Photographers will be available for team pictures

Awards will be given to teams raising the most money in each of the following divisions:

  • Company Teams
  • Family and Friends Teams
  • School Teams

Top 10 Tips for Fundraising

  1. Ask. The number one reason people donate is because you ask. If you don't ask you won't get anything.
  2. Remind them that not only are they helping a worthy cause, their donation is tax deductible.
  3. Make a list of people to approach. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, neighbors, your church, your parents, business associates, your dentist, your dog washer. Well, you get the point.
  4. Set a goal for your team $1,700 will cover a year of counseling for one abused child. Giving your team a benchmark like this personalizes the goal.
  5. Try to collect donations at the time you ask for them. This will save you time in the long run.
  6. For those sending out traditional letter, include a return envelope to make it easy for the donor.
  7. If you're emailing, be sure to include the direct link to the online donation site www.richstonefamily.org
  8. Bring all donations collected to the event.
  9. Go for it! Awards will be given to the top teams in each division.
  10. Send your donors a follow-up note or email thanking them bring your digital camera and include a team photo.
