Richstone Honors "King Of Hearts" Bob Courtney
From as far as New York and Florida, more than 500 guests dressed
in chic 1950’s fashion gathered to honor Richstone Family Center’s
beloved Bob “Bubsy” Courtney and celebrate the annual
An Affair of the Heart fundraiser presented by Outback Steakhouse
at Loyola Marymount University on June 7, 2008.
Loyola’s University Hall Atrium was transformed into a fabulous
Las Vegas-themed casino as attendees tried their luck at blackjack,
poker, craps and roulette while famous Rat Pack tunes played in the
background. Bob Duncan of Jubilee Productions and his band entertained
the crowd with favorite songs of the 50’s and 60’s, and
renowned singer and songwriter Jerry Fuller performed an original
song, “Bob”, that he wrote for specifically for Bubsy.
Magician Bobby Dee also dazzled the guests with amazing card tricks.
Guests enjoyed exceptional cuisine from Outback Steakhouse and an
array of fine wines from popular vintners and wineries. The spectacular
silent auction featured over 100 items, and the live auction included
exciting trips and unique sports and entertainment packages.
The event raised over $279,000 for Richstone’s vital programs
and services for vulnerable children and families in our communities.
The Robert E. Courtney Endowment also was established to generate
permanent support for the Richstone Kids Club After-School Program.
Our heartfelt thanks to Co-Chairs Roger and Barbara Van Remmen, David
and RL Peters, Larry and Lynn Wolf, Mary Ellen Rae, Candace Poindexter
and the Committee whose leadership and dedication made An Affair of
the Heart a wonderful success. A special thanks to Erica Mangham of
THE Event for her exceptional management of the many details of the
Affair.
